1990 Taxi Driver Screenplay (1976) - Paul Schrader - Faber&Faber

£10.00

1990’s Copy by Faber & Faber of Paul Schrader's original screenplay for the film Taxi Driver (1976) directed by Martin Scorsese.

Schrader states the story is semi autobiographical partly inspired when on a downward spiral after losing his job he literally didn't talk to anyone for many weeks, went to porno theaters, and developed an obsession with guns. He was working at the time as a delivery man for a chain of chicken restaurants, spending long days alone in his car, he felt, ‘I might as well be a taxi driver.’

One notable aspect of the screenplay is its minimal use of stage directions and omission of detailed descriptions of how scenes should be shot which are often found in other scripts.

Scorsese appreciated this aspect of the script because it gave him and the actors the freedom to interpret and shape the scenes during filming- Here you can read the full original screenplay and see how it differs to what actually made it up on screen.

Fantastic Cover image of De Niro as Travis Bickel - Includes full original screen-play as well as stills from the film and behind the scenes.

Condition- Very Good.
